I
You breathed life in me, encompassed me with perfect peace
Gave me purpose beyond compare, asking only for my trust
Yet suppositious hisses of the serpent’s aspersions filled my ear: you created me in bondage
I desired your position; my soul now snow stained crimson
Now here I stand in fear of you, seeking my own redemption
All that you had so freely given, through my rebellion I sacrificed.
II
I’d cast aside your love; my loyalty I sacrificed
Instantly I felt it: immense fear transplanted peace.
There’s no way out, there’s no hope, no redemption
I’ve gone too far, I can’t turn back, I’ve squandered all your trust
All of this for a moments bliss, forbidden fruit wrapped in lustrous crimson
Enslaved by pride, my presumption now forms my yoke, my bondage
III
I should have turned, I should have fled; rebellion gripped my heart in bondage
I have to run, I have to hide. Harmony with you I’ve sacrificed.
Yet you call me to you and cover me in skins, the lamb’s blood, deep crimson
We transgressed our calling, yet you promise one who will bring peace
You promise a seed of the woman’s loins in your word you bid us trust
Our iniquity is great, but your glory greater still will be displayed in our redemption
IV
O what news! Our guilt will be overshadowed by redemption
Our shame washed away, no longer enslaved to evil’s bondage
But is it possible that with such great ease, after casting off his trust
That God would care enough for us after we, his love sacrificed
Certainly we must do something if he’s to offer us His peace
We’ll present him an off’ring of our own at sunrise gold and crimson
V
A father’s son consumed in jealousy lashes out, his brother’s lifeblood crimson
The one we thought would bring us hope brought anguish not redemption,
Heartbreak, torment, misery—anything but peace
My rebellion, my transgression has bound my children in bondage
Not my contentment alone, but all humanity’s I sacrificed
In your holy word, I failed to place my trust
VI
You call me once again to trust
That only you can make white what now is crimson
Only you can restore the abundant life I sacrificed
Only you can purchase my redemption
Only you can break the shackles of my bondage
Only in you will I find peace
VII
The Father’s beloved Son sacrificed to bring redemption
His crimson blood poured out to death to ransom iniquity’s bondage
Death’s grip had no hold, He was raised to life! Trust, He’s worthy to bring Peace.
